  • Abstract

  • The motion of electrons in solid is affected by various degrees of freedom. Among them, the local Coulomb interaction often causes many emergent phenomena, which are not described based on any single-particle pictures. Beyond the single-particle picture, the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) has been widely used to explain the many body physics arose by the local correlations. I would introduce the motivation, background, and applications of the DMFT as an ideal tool to understand the correlation effects, focusing on “Mottness” and “Hundness” appearing in transition metal oxides.
